UN condemns Australia’s child incarceration rates

You may remember that the push to lift the age of criminal responsibility for children from 10 to 14 years failed last year. But it doesn’t mean the world isn’t paying attention. At a recent UN gathering, 30 countries have condemned Australia over high rates of child incarceration.

Country after country raised concern about why Australia has delayed a push to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 14 years – something that experts say is linked to Australia’s high rates of incarceration of Indigenous children.
